Frequently Asked Questions

What does Tab for a Cause do?

Tab for a Cause is a not-for-profit organization that helps you give easily to a cause you are passionate about. After installing the Tab for a Cause extension, one of every few new tabs you open is redirected to a donation page for your chosen cause, raising money for your charity! In only a few seconds, you can turn web browsing into charitable giving and also keep abreast of recent news related to your cause.

How does it work?

When Tab for a Cause redirects you to a page, we earn advertising revenue from the banner ads on the page, thanks to our generous advertising partners. One hundred percent (100%!) of profits are donated directly to your charity.

Is it free?

Yes! Tab for a Cause is completely free to use, and always will be.

So, if you're not earning profits, what's in it for you?

The Tab for a Cause Team believes it is critically important to make charitable giving a habit, and Tab for a Cause is a way for us to give a little to the world. And, of course, it feels great to help a good cause in need.

Do I have to sign up for anything?

Nope! All you have to do is install a browser extension, which you can find here.

How often does Tab for a Cause redirect me to a donation page?

You choose the frequency at which you give to your cause! After you open your chosen number of browser tabs, you will see a donation page for your charity. Only "real" new tabs will be redirected (not for new tabs generated by clicking a link) as to not disturb your regular browsing.

Does Tab for a Cause share any personally-identifying information with third parties?

No; with the exception of IP addresses (which are used only for aggregate statistics), Tab for a Cause does not collect any personally-identifying information from its users, nor do we share any personally-identifying information with third parties. We are committed to your privacy. For more information, please visit our Privacy Policy.

Is Tab for a Cause a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit?

Not yet. The Tab for a Cause team is in the process of applying to the Internal Revenue Service for nonprofit status.

I use a browser other than Firefox or Chrome. Is there an extension available to me?

Unfortunately, Tab for a Cause currently supports only Firefox and Chrome. We hope to expand in the future.

How often does Tab for a Cause donate to my cause?

We donate to charity at the end of every fiscal quarter, ensuring that management of transactions is feasible for the Tab for a Cause Team. We will donate only when a specific cause has earned at least $40 US to ensure we can receive important tax documentation from charities. If a cause has earned less than $40 a the end of any fiscal quarter, its earnings will roll over to the next quarter. For more information, see our Terms.

The web page or browser extension is not working correctly. What do I do?

Please visit Tab for a Cause Troubleshooting. If you still can't find what you need, contact us and we'll do our best to help you.

I do not see any advertisements on the new tab pages.

Please read the "No ads are displayed" section in Tab for a Cause Troubleshooting, and feel free to contact us if you need any help.

Can I request that you add a charity?

Though we are currently not taking users' requests to add charities, we are seeking direct partnerships with charities. Charities seeking partnership with Tab for a Cause should be geographically broad in scope, should maintain 501(c)(3) status, and should clearly engage in positive charitable work. If your charity meets these criteria, please contact us. For more information, see our Terms.

As Tab for a Cause expands, we hope to eventually seek users' recommendations for new charities.

Where does Tab for a Cause get its ads?

Tab for a Cause is joined with a few advertising networks as well as with a number of direct partners. We accept any advertisments that conform to our clean quality guidelines. Please contact us if you would like to begin a rewarding advertising partnership with us!
